This study examines the relationship between parenting style, self-esteem and cognitive flexibility in students. To do this, a sample of 100 students aged 14 and 15 years old from the 4th grade of the Aimé Césaire School Group in Yopougon was subjected to an identification questionnaire, the French adaptation of the Parental Authority Questionnaire (Mohamadkaddour, 2011), the self-esteem inventory of the Center for Applied Psychology (1984) and the Trail Making Test of Reitan (1958). The results show simple and interacting effects of parental educational style and self-esteem on cognitive flexibility in these students. Such results, in line with the theories of Vygotsky (1978) and Smith and Lazarus (1993), invite us to establish an affective climate both in the classroom and in the family and to implement educational practices conducive to the emergence of high self-esteem in the student, in order to improve his cognitive flexibility, and to improve his or her cognitive flexibility.
