ABSTRACT
Our study aims to investigate the role of
occupational level at work and self-esteem in the risk of marital
conflicts. A total of sixty (60) couples participated in the study and
were subjected to a questionnaire for data collection. The
characteristics of this sample were as follows: holding a profession;
being between the ages of 30 and 45; having at least three (3) years
of family life experience; having only one child; and an age
difference of five to six years in favor of the man.
The results, obtained using Pearson’s
Chi-square test, reveal that both occupational level at work and
self-esteem increase the risk of conflicts among partners. These
findings indicate that cognitive and contextual factors play a crucial
role in the process leading to the resurgence of marital conflicts. In
other words, while work is considered a valuable resource today,
certain personal characteristics, such as high self-evaluation, can
also be sources of disagreement within a couple. Understanding these
factors appears to be an interesting avenue for developing both
curative and preventive strategies aimed at addressing the complex
field of interpersonal relationships.
